Page 6A. Management Requires…..

What’s required for successful management?

I don’t think this is just going to happen (management that is).  What do you think?.  Did all you managers out there come up with a satisfactory, correct definition of management?  I assume you did so I can go ahead and talk about what it’s going to take to make it (management) happen.  My favorite definition of management is “Judicious use of means to accomplish ends.”  I love the way it sounds when I say the words.  However, I would be willing to accept your more traditional definition “Wise use of resources to accomplish goals and objectives.”  What if we memorize one of these definitions and just say the words over and over to ourselves.  Will that make management happen??  Of course not, you say.  What if Peter Drucker hadn’t died.  We could hire him to make it happen for us (although I doubt that any of us could afford his consulting fee).  Actually there are a lot of management gurus out there who are anxiously waiting to consult with us and give us all kinds of advice (for their fee of course).  Even I have been in the management consulting business in my past history and I must say, it is a fun business, but I digress.  So, what do you think it will take (to make management happen)?  I think it falls in the category of common sense.  I would contend that there is one key activity/action/ingredient required for successful management to occur.  Jesus knew what it was.  Can you guess what it is?

Not only is it required within the secular realm but it’s also required within the spiritual realm.  The Bible is very “friendly” to this concept as illustrated in the following passages.
