I have a tee shirt that says “I
my grandpa”. It was a Christmas gift from one of them a few years ago. So, what does that really mean? I’m pretty sure they don’t know. I’ve heard of love letters. I’ve heard of love bites. I’ve seen books about love. I’ve seen movies about love. I’ve heard pronouncements of love. People have told me they love me. I’ve told people I love them. I’ve heard about a love “language”. I’ve heard about a love “bug”. Are there different kinds of love or degrees of love? My son has a large coin operated device that says it measures love. I’ve used it but I won’t tell you how I scored.
We Christians have a real advantage in the love department. We have an instruction-operator’s-owner’s manual so we don’t have to wonder about it. You know what I’m talking about. My NASB computer Bible gives me 352 “hits” when I type in the word “love”.
I’m going to take the next several weeks to explore this subject and I’m going to start with the most famous passage in 1 Cor 13: 4-8. You have no doubt heard this passage read at weddings.
I like this picture. I think it does a good job of expressing the first attribute of love listed in this Bible passage.
Love is …………………….
