What does it mean to be rich? I think of lots of money. Lots of possessions. Rich is more. Rich is more (of anything although I tend to think of money) than I have. Rich is more than you have.
So, I guess none of us are rich. That’s a relief because the Bible has some pretty bad news for the “rich”. Matt 19:24 “It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.” Jesus was saying this to the disciples and they asked the obvious question: “Then who can be saved?” Jesus answered correctly of course: “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”
So, I know what this says, but what does it mean? After extensive Google research I have concluded that it means that riches can be a stumbling block to the receipt of eternal life in heaven with Jesus/God.
Money has nothing to do with our salvation but this passage still makes me nervous. I had to go back to page 2 of my blog to reassure myself. Why don’t you go back and reread it too.
